She was singer performer designer who broke through the barriers of the industry of music. She was at once traditional and modern, a Mexican American who brought two worlds in a distinctive method. It was an emerging star who's tragic death threw it into turmoil. It is also the case when a brilliant, genial young performer dies too soon, many mourned the potential she was yet to achieve. To prevent her accomplishments from being forgotten, many fans over the past years have been motivated to do even more. The tragic death by shooting of Tejano singer Selena caused a resurgence in the Latino community that can be thought of as similar to the responses to the death of Elvis Presley and John Lennon. Selena was an extremely popular Latino singer across North America. Her music transcended boundaries and brought joy to youngsters as well as older adults. Selena was a hot and flamboyant stage performer who was sometimes known as the Latina Madonna. Off-stage Selena was an outstanding role model, as she actively participated in antidrug and AIDS campaigning.
